Almost 2,000 workers, in the United States alone, suffer from workplace eye injury per day. You read that right... 2,000 workplace eye injuries per day. Around 700 of these daily injuries require emergency care. Around 5% of them incapacitate the victim from doing work for at least a day. Around 60% of workplace eye injuries are caused by small particles that manage to strike the eye. Around 30% is caused by contact with chemicals that are harmful to the eyes. Almost 2% of these workplace eye injuries cause permanent blindness.

Composed of more than 2 million essential parts and capable of processing almost 40,000 pieces of visual information every 60 minutes, your eyes are often the stimulants of most of the motions of our bodies. If the eyes see danger, it commands the rest of the body to respond accordingly. If the eyes see beauty, it sends signals to the rest of the body to feel its refreshing and inspiring effects. The eyes can immediately push into motion the several muscles and organs we have.

In a study conducted by the Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII), it was revealed that 4.7 million industrially related eye injuries were reported in 2002. This is an alarming number considering that a worker's vision is the primary sense that he uses for his source of living. What's even more alarming is the ratio between the aforementioned number of eye injuries and the number of workers employed in the private sector. Almost 6 workers out of 100 can potentially suffer an eye injury, based on the trend established by the statistic discussed above.
